Welcome to MCB Hounds!
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website!

MCB Hounds is a small family owned and oriented state licensed kennel located on a farm in beautiful eastern Iowa. All of our puppies are handled daily by us and our children. We strive to improve the breed and produce loyal and sociable pet quality puppies to go to permanent loving homes. Each of our basset hounds are very special to us and are considered part of our family. We do not deal with brokers or pet stores!
We breed for standard, health, and temperament. All of our puppies come pre-spoiled and make great child/adult/family companions. Our puppies will be current on shots, regularly dewormed, been vet examined and have a one year guarantee against life threatening genetic/hereditary problems. Your puppy will also be accompanied with a health certificate signed by a lisenced veterinarian, his/her first sample of Heartgaurd (heartworm preventative), a sample bag of puppy food, puppy kit, toy, and a blanket. Puppies are available to "pet homes" with Limited AKC registrations.
Please view the Nursery for available puppies!

The basset hound is one of the best breeds available for a family to love. They do well with people of all ages, apartment living, hunting, tracking, obedience, and multiple-pet households. They are extremely loyal, need only moderate exercise, and are relatively easy to train (although they can be stubborn at times). The basset hound has a tendency to howl when left alone for long periods of time. If left alone for any length of time during the day, consider another dog or a cat to keep your dog company. The basset hound, if not kept in a fenced area or on a leash, has a hard time resisting when a good scent reaches their nose, there is no telling where they will end up, and unfortunately, the basset hound is not good at finding their way back home.

Breed Description!
The basset hound's close-to-the-ground chassis, gay tail, and long, long ears make it a breed of distinction. The adult dogs should be no more than 14 inches at the shoulder, but, because of the heavy bones and muscles, can weigh between 40 and 80 pounds.
The basset head is unique. The skull is rounded, the muzzle deep, and the skin loose on the face and heavily wrinkled over the brow when the dog's head is lowered to sniff the trail.. The combination of pendulous ears, face wrinkles, and pendulous lips gathers scent towards the nose where it belongs.
The basset's short legs end in massive paws. The front feet turn slightly outward to balance the width of the shoulders. The hind feet point forward. The coat is hard, smooth, and short, with sufficient density to be of use in all weather. The basset hounds skin is loose and elastic.
